Classic Grilled Sea Bream

Classic Grilled Sea Bream

Grilling is a favorite method for fish enthusiasts to bring out the best flavors of fresh seafood. Using this practical and classic grilled sea bream recipe, you’ll achieve perfectly cooked fish with tender, flavorful meat every time.

Ingredients (Serves 2)

Main Ingredients:

  • 2 pieces of sea bream (cleaned)

  • 1/2 cup of olive oil

  • 4 bay leaves

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

For the Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup of olive oil

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 2 sprigs of fresh basil

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

Instructions for Preparing Grilled Sea Bream

  1. Prepare the Fish

    • Begin by making shallow cuts on both sides of the sea bream to help the flavors penetrate. Wash the fish under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel.

  2. Season and Add Bay Leaves

    • Insert 2 bay leaves inside each fish for aromatic flavor. Rub the exterior of the fish with salt, pepper, and olive oil to enhance the taste and prevent sticking on the grill.

  3. Heat the Grill

    • While you prepare the fish, preheat the grill (either gas, charcoal, or electric) to medium-high heat. Make sure the grill is well-oiled to prevent the fish from sticking.

  4. Grill the Sea Bream

    • Once the grill is heated, place the sea bream directly onto the grill. Cook each side of the fish for about 5 minutes, depending on the heat of your grill, until the skin is crispy and the flesh is tender. (On an electric grill, it usually takes about 10 minutes in total.)

  5. Prepare the Sauce

    • In a small bowl, mix olive oil, lemon juice, fresh basil, and minced garlic to make a tangy and flavorful sauce.

  6. Serve

    • Once the fish is fully cooked, carefully transfer the sea bream onto a serving plate. Drizzle with the prepared lemon-basil sauce. Serve with a fresh salad or your choice of side dish for a complete meal.

Cooking Tips

  • Grill Type: Cooking times may vary depending on the type of grill you are using. Be sure to check for doneness by testing the flesh; it should flake easily with a fork when cooked.

  • Serving Suggestion: Pair your grilled sea bream with a light Mediterranean salad or some roasted vegetables for a perfect meal.

  • Sauce Variations: Feel free to customize the sauce with herbs like parsley, oregano, or even a pinch of chili flakes for a little heat.
